Authors of "Drive I-95" Visit Averasboro Museum Minimize

Posners authors visit AverasboroNoted authors, Stan Posner and his wife, Sandra Phillips-Posner, on February 1 visited the Averasboro Battlefield & Museum. Their visit had been arranged by Sharon Stevens, the Marketing Director for the Dunn Area Tourism Authority. The Posners are authors of a book entitled Drive I-95, which they update and re-print periodically. Their purpose in visiting the Averasboro Battlefield, along with other points of interest in the area, was to determine if the places they visited should be listed as a good place for travelers on Interstate 95 to pull off the interstate and visit while they are passing through the area. We are Drive I-95happy to report that the Averasboro Battlefield and Museum will be listed in the next edition of the Posners’ book, Drive I-95. Incidentally, the current book Drive I-95 is available for purchase at the Averasboro Museum Gift Shop. Anyone planning to travel I-95,with a little bit of time to spend touring, would be wise to purchase the book and find a fabulous amount of information as well as may highlighted places to visit. Thanks Sharon for bringing the Posners by to visit with Averasboro.

 Events At Averasboro Battlefield Minimize

Each year, exciting events are happening at the Averasboro Battlefield and Museum. Although specific events and times differ from year to year, here are some of the wonderful and informative events we have hosted recently. Be sure to check on this website from time to time for exact events, dates, and features.

Periodically, the Averasboro Battlefield is the site of a Living History Event. This all day event presents Living Historians, Reenactors, Displays, Presentations and Demonstrations. In addition to historical themes, the event has provided other fun and interesting things to do for the entire family, such as a Ghost Walk Tour for several years and Horse and Pony Rides. As experience is gained hosting the Living History event, the Averasboro Battlefield Commission trys to make each progressive one bigger and better than the last, with different activties added each time.

Averasboro Fiber Festival

A relatively new event is the Fiber Festival held in the spring of the year. You can see spinning, weaving, knitting, sheep shearing, working sheep dogs, and more at this very popular event.

Battle Reenactment

Periodicially, every few years, Averasboro will be the site of a large reenactment of the March 1865 battle. Reenactors from all over come together to present the Averasboro story through infantry, artillery, and cavalry tactics and demonstrations.

Cycle NC 2009 Averasboro Stop Minimize
The Cycle NC group came to Harnett County recently (October 1) and more specifically the Averasboro Battlefield Museum. This group of over 1000 has made Averasboro a stop on previous trips bicycling across North Carolina, but there were many first time visitors to the Museum this time. The CNC Staff recently wrote Averasboro Museum a note saying "The Cycle North Carolina Staff would like to thank you for hosting a rest stop on our 'Mountains to the Coast' fall ride. Your memorial and museum provided a great place for the cyclists to relax and refuel for their trip. I heard from many that this was their favorite rest stop! Thanks for your hospitality!"
